Tony Zizzi

I observe light and how it defines life about me. I attempt to compose it when it touches the earth in special ways. I have documented natural light through technical record keeping for over thirty-four years. It is through these lighting logs that I have been allowed a greater understaning of light, especially the effects of the geometry of the light source. With these technical tools I can explore the many uncharted and new tangents of Silver-based photography. There is no manipulation with computer technologhy or special effect filter in my work. My art is a reflection of the moment and what I was able to record upon the film in the experience before me. The print is made with strict fidelity to match what was composed on the slide film.In the pursuit of special moments of light it is what is often hidden in them that can evoke emotions that lay dormant within the human spirit. It is an awakening of consciousness for me to record these moments upon the Silver-Halide. In this attempt to compose these rare moments of light I am sometimes able to achieve a certain version of perfection. In these endeavors I seek to define my purpose in this life. And when reaching this pinnacle I have come to realize that I am actually anchoring myself to some of the rare moments of my existance. The reward is like an emergence from the depths to breathe in fresh air.
