Sheila Walters

Each original work begins with a black and white photographic image, developed and printed by the artist using traditional darkroom technques. In order to create a surrealistic effect, the photograph is hand colored in select areas with transparent oil paint. The image is then juxtaposed with tactile objects. Many of the works combine organic materials, objects of authenticity and self-created pieces in order to symbolize a connection between image and object. Through her work the artist expresses herself with what she describes as photgraphic anthropology. Each piece requires the observer to become an active participant in the art.
