Scott Coulter

My work establishes a link between the landscape’s reality and that imagined by its observer. I investigate the dynamics of landscape and work to manipulate its effects by creating an illusion limited only by our imagination. I respond to the surrounding environment and use everyday experiences as a starting point. Often these are images that would go unnoticed in their original context. I am Canadian and spent many years painting in the Rockies of BC and Alberta. I currently live in the US and do shows and use reference from all across the country. Some of the paintings are traditional and some are taking on a more contemporary look. My emphasis is on strong composition and atmosphere.
