Renee Engebretson & James Engebretson

Jim first blew glass over 45 years ago and knew it was something he wanted to do for the rest of his life. Renee began working in the medium over 30 years ago. Around 1982 we found a way to combine Jim’s talent for glassblowing and Renee’s painting and printmaking aesthetic. Our home and studios are located on land that was once the largest commercial trout hatchery in the Midwest. After being flooded in the mid 1900’s the hatchery has mostly reverted to it’s natural state. Native brook and brown trout, an abundance of wildlife and the movement of the water, reeds and grasses make it a magical place to live and work. This environment inspires us on a daily basis and the majority of our pieces come from that inspiration. We use traditional glass making techniques to create vessels that hold the essence of this wetland. We hope you are able to catch a glimpse of the spirit of place in our work.
