Pamela Summers

Pamela summers is a well-known Texas artist who traces her Cherokee heritage all the way back to Chief Oconostota; the Cherokee’s last great warrior-chief. Pamela grew up in fort worth, attended art school in Pretoria, South Africa, then returned to Fort Worth and has been a full time potter for more than thirty years. She has developed a strong signature technique for her contemporary raku and polychrome ceramics that has given her both regional and national recognition. Pamela’s raku is based on the raku firing process developed in 16th century Japan. Pam has taken this idea to a new level developing alternative raku techniques over many years using modern equipment and various components including ferric chloride, copper sulphate, salt, sea oats and horsehair. She owns and operates Cliff House Studio & Gallery. Pamela has recently received an NEA grant with the city of Grand Prairie to create a ceramic tile work of art. She has created several outdoor ceramic murals for Streams and Valleys, a non-profit organization committed to saving, sharing and celebrating the Trinity River in Fort Worth. Pamela is past president and founding member of the Texas Pottery & Sculpture Guild.
