Jill Flinn

I design and create each of these bas relief sculptures.
Bas relief is defined as “low raised work”.
I chose this technique in order to have multiple textures
I could not achieve using paint mediums alone.
My work is additive as well as subtractive sculpture.
I use paper clay which air hardens permanently and does not warp or shrink as earthen clay will when fired.
After each sculpture is dry, I hand paint them in layers of acrylics, using dry brush to enhance the textures.
Each piece is matted and framed in a deep molding under glass.
My subject matter is inspired by natural forms.
It’s been said that artists should paint what they know.
I live rurally and take in abandoned animals.
This art work is meant to make the viewer smile.
