I am intrigued by an over examination of my subject matter. I enjoy studying the model, and examining the elevations of the face. I attempt to create a map of what I observe. I want to dissect the image; survey the colors, saturations, shapes and lines. I want to leave for the viewer a schematic of how to recreate a beautiful artwork. I want the viewer to feel accessibility to the artist. As if they could easily be the artist. I want them to see on a rudimentary level how artists use color and shape to transcribe what they see. There is something about collecting that I love. The trip to the hardware store, to collect or steal, if you will, my materials, excites me. The time I spend organizing and cataloguing the swatches is meditative. The examination of the subject matter and discerning the subtleties between tones challenges me. Each small piece of paper with an identifier of its color source, specifically cut to create for the viewer, a topographical reference to a paint by number, my adult version of a puzzle.
