Ariel Davis

The body of work I am presenting to you is called “Women Solo”. It is based in figurative and portrait painting, but is a celebration of feminine strength, wiith a focus on the female form, each painting depicting one woman at a time. I choose to show women in a relaxed state, finding feminine strength in their soft, comfortable, candid poses. The idea behind “Women Solo” is showing these women when they are unaccompanied, and truly themselves. Color, composition, and gesture play important role in my work. Each piece tells a different story about that specific person, and these aspects help me tell that story. I draw inspiration for this body of work from my own experience of feeling alone after a personal low point in my life. I didn’t feel comfortable with myself or being alone by myself. From there I was determined to surround myself with people I enjoyed and to work on those relationships I let slide (including my relationship with myself), and to foster new ones. Through this I met a lot of wonderful people, and what I consider strong women. In spending time with all these people, I amassed countless photos, which I use as my source material. The “Women Solo” series combines many things that give me joy; spending time with my friends, taking pictures, and figurative painting. It allows me to focus on those that give me strength, and what I would consider as female role models: models of strength. To see more work, please visit www.ariel-davis.com
