Ronnie Hughes

Oxygen and propane torches which hit temperatures of 3,000+ degrees are used to transform clear, colored or my blended borosilicate glass to a molten state. This makes it fluid enough to blow and/or shape. Using only freehand, flame-working techniques, my goal is to show movement, delicacy and detail in each glass work which can have heights of two feet. In 1987 I developed a unique and organically inspired, solid glass base which fulfills my desire for continuity of glass and grounds my flowers. Doing this creates a complete glass sculpture instead of mixed media result. My use of clear glass is intentional to give my sculpture both mystical and transparent optical qualities that challenge the observer to explore their imagination to finish my vision. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=flameworking+video&&view=detail&mid=3FAB27AEB5963C9E5FFF3FAB27AEB5963C9E5FFF&&FORM=VDRVRV
