Karen Libecap

Karen started her career studying graphic design at Kent State University and worked as an art director in major cities including Chicago, Washington DC and Cincinnati. More recently she owned and operated a studio where she did photography and taught art classes. It was through teaching that she was able to explore different creative avenues. Her favorites are oil and pastel. She won the Hoover Art Alliance Award for the Alabama Pastel Society in 2013 and has been commissioned for portraits that are in private collections across the country. Karen has always had a fascination of miniatures since she was a child and has recently been able to apply her skills and imagination to create tiny, yet intricate works of art that cover a wide variety of subject matter. The medium used to create these 1.25″ x 1.25″ tiny masterpieces is watercolor and gouache which allows Karen to render the finest detail in this very small scale making them highly collectible. Karen’s tiny paintings have recently gained worldwide recognition. She has over 23k followers on Instagram has been featured in various publications including Huffington Post, Bored Panda, MTV News, Viral Nova and many other blogs. Karen received Best Painting award at the Orange Beach Festival of art 2017 and the Chamber award at the Fairhope

Arts and Craft Fair 2017, the people’s choice award at the Bluff Park Art Show in 2015 and 2016, the Merit Award of Distinction at the Kentuck Art Show in 2016, as well as, the Merit award at the Magic City Art Connection 2016, and the 2nd place overall artist at the Birmingham Artwalk in 2016. Karen published her first book The Big Book of Tiny Art through Walter Foster Publishing which became available to the public in October 2016.
