Art on Tour

Art on Tour Collection Outreach Program presented by
Chesapeake Energy
Corporation.
The MAIN ST. Fort Worth Arts Festival, with the support
of Chesapeake Energy and in conjunction with the Fort Worth ISD, is once again pleased to
present the Art on Tour Collection (ATC) to students and community members in 2009.
Students from the Fort Worth ISD’s Art Apprentice Program
will research and coordinate the acquisition, installation and handling of the
art as well as dismantling the exhibition. They will be trained as docents to give tours
of the collection to other students and the community, and each school will
feature a Community Night for parents, school board members and the local
community to view the collection and take the tour. Many schools will expand
the outreach by opening the collection to senior citizen centers, feeder
schools and local arts groups.
The ATC will consist of original works of art acquired from
the 2007 and 2008 Festival’s participating artists and will be housed
in the Fort Worth Public Library downtown. In future years, the collection will be added
to and then will tour perpetually throughout Fort Worth to schools, libraries, community
centers and other public venues. Each
collection provides exposure to the visual arts in an accessible,
non-threatening setting and introduces the public to various art forms through
exhibition of original artwork.
To make this a comprehensive educational experience, the
Festival will provide several educational tools that can be used in the
classroom or as part of a community program. The ATC Program Guide will include
resource and reference materials that foster education of media and techniques
our exhibiting artists employ. Developed
by art teachers, the ATC Program Guide includes artist biographies, additional
resources, inter-curricular lesson plans and activities. In addition, each work
of art is accompanied by a 'take away' educational piece written in both
English and Spanish.
The Art on Tour Docent Program creates ownership and
actively engages students in the Collection which is essential to a quality
educational experience. Students at each
school will be trained as docents to give tours of the Collection to the
student body and school community. The
docents will be instructed on medium, technique and process of each two- and
three-dimensional piece in the exhibits. Artist biographies and artist
statements also give background to the work and aid interpretation.
Currently, several pieces of art have been purchased from our 2007 and 2008 artists as the apprentices ready the tour for 2008 - 2009 . The next step is to design and construct the exhibition, and secure locations for showing the works. Please check back as this website will have the locations and times/dates of the exhibit when it is put up for public viewing.
