Standings Based on Average Sales Volume for Exhibiting Artists

FORT WORTH, Texas, Feb. 1, 2005 – MAIN ST. Fort Worth Arts Festival has vaulted to a “Top 10” ranking among its peers in the latest edition of Art Fair SourceBook, the publication of record for the art festival industry.

MAIN ST. holds down the #8 position in Art Fair SourceBook’s newly published 2005 edition, up from #13 last year. The SourceBook includes information on more than 600 juried art and crafts fairs around the nation.

“To be listed among the elite in what is widely regarded as the bible of the industry is indeed a milestone for MAIN ST., which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary,” said John C. “Jay” Downie, CFEE, producer of the festival for Downtown Fort Worth, Inc. “It testifies to the absolute top quality work of our artists as well as the marvelous work done year-in and year-out by our scores of volunteers, production teams and, or course, our sponsors.”

MAIN ST.’s ranking is based on a calculation by Art Fair SourceBook’s editors of the average sales volume for the 200 artists selected each year to exhibit at the festival, which runs April 7-10 this year. Raw data on art sales is gleaned from survey responses submitted by the artists themselves.

MAIN ST. is joined in Art Fair Sourcebook’s “Top 10” by events located in Sausalito, Calif.; Denver, Colo.; Milwaukee, Wis.; Des Moines, Ia.; St. Louis, Mo.; Kansas City, Mo., Chicago; Minneapolis, Minn., and Pontiac, Mich.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the festival spans nine blocks of downtown Fort Worth’s historic Main Street, stretching from the Tarrant County Courthouse to the Fort Worth Convention Center. In addition to the ceramics, painting, photography, woodcarvings, glassworks, jewelry and multimedia compositions on display, MAIN ST. includes performances by some 200 musicians and other entertainers.

It is expected to attract some 460,000 people over its four-day run.
